Joanna’s new play around and around and around the static sun (formerly titled Frank) has been named a finalist for the Todd McNerney National Playwriting Award.
Presented by the College of Charleston, the award supports the development of new plays and raises awareness of the college’s Theatre and Dance Department’s commitment to new work.
around and around and around the static sun is a full-length dark satire that explores gender, historical memory, and the way people use the power of time to keep oppressive hierarchies in place. It tells the story of Kimberly, who creates a fake man to save her business and, for better or worse, sparks a movement the world has never seen.
The play will next go to the Last Frontier Theater Conference in Valdez, AK, alongside Joanna’s ten-minute play The World’s Next Tooth Fairy Is Marci Peterson.
